What is the TOEIC test?
The Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) is a two-hour English language proficiency examination for people whose native language is not English. It includes 200 multiple-choice questions divided into two sections:
Listening Section: 100 questions with audiocassette. Statements, questions, short conversations, and short talks in English are followed by questions. This section lasts approximately 45 minutes.
Reading Section: 100 questions. You will read a variety of materials and respond at your own pace to questions about their content. This section takes about 75 minutes.
The TOEIC is designed to indicate how well people can communicate in English with others in the workplace. It does not require specialized knowledge or vocabulary beyond that of a person who uses English in everyday work activities. The TOEIC examinee handbook has further details on test content.
Where do I get a TOEIC handbook?
American Language Institute Temara maintains a supply of test handbooks with information about the TOEIC test. Information on the exam content is also available at the TOEIC Web site.
What about my scores?
Your official scores and TOEIC certificate should arrive within at the American Language Institute Temara office within two weeks after the test. Questions about any score delays should be directed to American Language Institute Temara. Scores are confidential and will be released only to you and your sponsoring organization unless you specify otherwise. With your written permission, scores can also be provided to other organizations.

Who is it for?
The Test is used by organisations to determine whether an employee is suitable for a particular task. If you work or want to work for a large organisation, particularily in Asia, then the TOEIC test will be useful to you.
What is the TOEIC test like?
The test takes 2.5 hours and has two sections:
1. Listening – 100 questions
2. Structure – 100 questions

Part 4: Short talks: 20 questions
Reading

The TOEIC exam is under review with some changes being introduced to the new TOEIC. The main change is that you will also be able to take a Writing and Speaking exam along with the Reading and Listening.
What about scores?
The TOEIC gives a score between 10 and 990:

• 255 – 400 Elementary Proficiency
